West Nile Virus

According to the Center for Disease Control, the West Nile Virus is carried by birds and transmitted to humans and other animals by mosquitoes.  Early symptoms of people who get sick include fever, headaches and a stiff neck.  Although unlikely, West Nile virus can lead to encephalitis and even death.  People with weakened immune systems face the most threats from the virus.  This week the CDC said that West Nile Virus is here to stay and that simple prevention methods, such as wearing insect repellent, are the best way to manage the epidemic.
